THE DAILY BLOVIATION
Some days the media delivereth. Some days it doth not.
As I wake this morning and caffeinate myself to life, I realize that there are actually two stories I could talk about.
The first, Ethan Pocic signing with the Baltimore Ratbirds, is a legitimate AFC North story. The Browns let Pocic walk after he tore his Achilles, and this year replaced him at center with Elgton Jenkins and a draft choice they're hoping will step up: Parker Brailsford.
Pocic started 97 games across nine NFL seasons and will now help replace Tyler Linderbaum, who bolted for the Raiders. There's a "here we go again" element to this, as there's a history of the Browns walking away from linemen who later do well elsewhere, and it's especially painful when considering that this is the Ratbirds we're talking about. So, while we thank Pocic for his time in a Browns uniform, we don't wish him too well.
Meanwhile, in news that has nothing to do with pads: Shedeur Sanders dropped a new song, "Turn Back," ahead of his second NFL season in Cleveland. I'm not your music critic (although I probably should be), and I'm not going to pretend to be one at 7 a.m., but the timing — right as we head into camp — tells you Sanders isn't hiding from the spotlight, for better or worse.
So, there's that.

While we're pondering all that non-Browns news, let's take a moment to take a sad look back at the old Newswire construction system, a Rube Goldberg contraption that assembled his document out of articles I've saved throughout the day before. Before I sit down to bloviate, a whole series of dominoes needs to fall in a specific order to get the template ready for my stupid nonsense.
If only you knew how much sheer technology is behind this bloviation, you would say "Barry, that's sort of overkill", and I wouldn't disagree. But I pulled it all apart and replaced it with a new contraption, so that took me a few hours this morning, making this nonsense a tad late.
As part of my secret project, I've been coding again. That's my happy place, where I can create something out of arcane programming languages like some sort of terribly misguided alchemist wearing Orange and Brown. It's been a while since I could do that, and I'm excited once again to be back in my old role.
So, it's July 2026, there's literally no Browns news, but I'm busier than ever, happily humming to myself as the rest of the Brownsworld around me is crankily looking at the calendar and tapping their feet, waiting for training camp to start. But I'm happily cranking away, trying to get something built for once.
My goodness, I must be annoying.

Not football, but worth a detour: Space.com marked the 40th anniversary of "Aliens" with a rundown of why James Cameron's sequel still holds up as one of the great sci-fi action movies ever made. I remember it was a revelation when I first saw it in a theatre. You spent all of Alien wishing that the misbegotten crew had some machine guns. For the sequel, you got your wish, and it delivered as no sci-fi sequel has since or before.
