Tottenham close to an agreement with Man City for their 22-year-old winger

Tottenham are working hard behind the scenes to get their seventh signing on board.

Tottenham Hotspur have already brought in Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi, Martin Dubravka, Jan Paul van Hecke, Mateus Fernandes, and Sandro Tonali this summer, as they look to rebuild their squad following their second consecutive 17th-placed finish in the Premier League.

After a summer of aggressive spending, Spurs are still yet to address some gaps in their squad. One of those is the lack of a quality winger. Roberto De Zerbi currently has Mathys Tel, Mohammed Kudus and Wilson Odobert as options in the wide department. However, Odobert is out with a serious knee injury, while Kudus missed the second half of last season with a quad problem. On the other hand, Tel is still very young and isn’t ready to play consistently at the highest level.

So, Spurs are seemingly looking to upgrade this position and have been linked with a few names. The most prominent name has been Manchester City’s Savinho. Tottenham have been in talks with Manchester City over a deal for Savinho for weeks now. The 22-year-old has been on the North London club’s radar dating back to last summer’s transfer window.

Savinho himself remains keen on securing a move to White Hart Lane, having found regular first-team football hard to come by at Manchester City last season. He looks set to depart the Etihad Stadium, 12 months after penning a new contract with Man City.

Now, according to a report from TEAMtalk, Tottenham are closing in on an agreement for Savinho after Roberto De Zerbi gave the green light to the move. The N17 chiefs have upped their ante for the Brazilian international in recent days to try and reach an agreement with Man City for the player.

The Lilywhites are on the cusp of thrashing out a deal worth around £60million, with talks between the clubs advancing. Personal terms are already in place for a player they have admired for well over 12 months.

The report adds that De Zerbi has been heavily involved in the decision to prioritise a move for Savinho over other targets, including AC Milan star Rafael Leao, thanks to the Brazilian’s age, potential, profile and top-flight experience. The £60million price has also been one of the factors for Tottenham to prioritise Savinho’s signing.

Savinho could revive his career at Tottenham

Savinho enjoyed a solid start to his City career, but he soon found himself fighting with some of the experienced attackers for a place in the starting XI. Eventually, he fell out of favour under former City boss Pep Guardiola, while injuries did not help the winger’s cause. Overall, the move to City hasn’t worked out for him.

At Spurs, Savinho will get a chance to clock regular minutes and get his career back on track. Under a tactically astute manager in De Zerbi, the South American trickster should improve his game leaps and bounds and hopefully fulfil his vast potential. He is quick, versatile, unpredictable, technically sound, can dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas, and also works hard without possession. All in all, the ex-Girona man can be a difference-maker in the final third for De Zerbi’s side.
