Mary Kay Cabot Predicts Heated Browns QB Battle

The battle between the quarterbacks is expected to be very neck and neck as the franchise heads into the 2026 season. Fans are eagerly waiting to see the outcome of the most competitive one.

The Browns insider Mary Kay Cabot appeared on The Ken Carman Show with Anthony Lima on 92.3 The Fan and shared her point of view when asked about who is finally going to earn the starting job for Week 1: Shedeur Sanders or Deshaun Watson?

Cabot shared her thoughts and said:

“It really is going to come down to who is going to give them the best chance to win; figuring that out won’t be easy until the action begins.”

“Until the lights are on, until you’re getting sacked and hit and having to read the defenses and do all of those kinds of things, in a live game, it’s going to be really tricky.”

She also added:

“I think it’s going to be an incredibly, incredibly lively training camp; I think it’s going to be a very heated battle. I think you can see that the stakes are really high.”

The training camp will be divided into two reps, and both the quarterbacks will be given equal practice sessions. Rookies report on July 23, with veterans following on July 28.

Cabot also shared that both the players are giving their best and are doing extra hard work before practice begins.

She said:

“I think you can see that the stakes are really high. These guys are already going all out in their summer break to prove that they want this job. Deshaun comes back into town, and before you know it, Shedeur comes back too. They’re battling it out, so it’s going to be intense, it’s going to be heated, and let the best man win.”

It would be interesting to see the competition between the two different players at two different stages of their careers. Sanders is all set to begin his rookie year. He threw for 1,400 yards with seven touchdowns and 10 interceptions across seven starts, completing 56.6 percent of his passes.

On the other hand, we have the veteran quarterback Watson, who is going to enter the final season of his five-year, $230 million contract.

As per Pro Football Network’s QB Impact, Sanders’ 2025 rookie season was not up to the mark, and the quarterback was ranked as the second-worst among NFL quarterbacks.

Although his career didn’t start well, many analysts believe that he has potential and that he has the ability to deliver the ball on time and can flourish with better coaching and improved weapons around him.

It would be interesting to see what the head coach of the Browns will eventually decide, whether he chooses to rely on Watson’s experience or accelerate Sanders’ development.
