The San Francisco 49ers are going into the 2026 season looking to build on what they did in 2025. Despite numerous injuries across the roster, the 49ers still finished 12-5 on the year and made it to the divisional round of the playoffs.
With Brandon Aiyuk’s future in the NFL up in the air, it would seem that George Kittle could be recruiting a familiar face to the offense.

George Kittle Goes Full Send For Old 49ers Wide Receiver
Wide receiver Deebo Samuel is one of the more intriguing free agents still available as NFL training camp approaches in less than a month. Before spending last season with the Washington Commanders, Samuel spent the first six seasons of his career with the San Francisco 49ers.
In spite of Washington’s quarterback carousel, he finished the season with 72 receptions for 727 yards and five touchdowns. Jayden Daniels made just seven starts. It appears some of Samuel’s former teammates are trying to recruit him back to San Francisco as he weighs his next move.
In his latest Instagram post on Thursday, Samuel shared a workout video with the caption, “Let The Chips Fall Where They May.” The post quickly drew comments from 49ers fullback Kyle Juszczyk and tight end George Kittle.
Juszczyk wrote, “I have a guest house with your name on it.”
Roughly a day later, Kittle added, “I also have a guest house labeled ‘Deebo’s second home.'”

The 49ers reached the Super Bowl three times during Samuel’s six seasons in San Francisco. The 81 games he played with the franchise saw him grab 334 passes, gain 4,792 yards and score 22 touchdowns. He also accumulate 202 carries for 1,143 yards and 20 touchdowns on the ground.
The top receiving options on San Francisco’s depth chart are Mike Evans, Ricky Pearsall, Christian Kirk, Demarcus Robinson, and De’Zhaun Stribling. The 49ers could use Samuel as a slot receiver along with Evans and Pearsall if they bring him back.
