Karl-Anthony Towns believes he is also a generational talent like Victor Wembanyama who helped the Knicks to win the 2026 NBA title.
Karl-Anthony Towns is fully convinced that Victor Wembanyama is bound for superstardom and becoming the next face of the NBA, but he firmly believes that he possesses the same special traits that helped the New York Knicks win it all this year.

“He’s a generational talent, the next superstar of the league ... But I wholeheartedly believe in my heart, I'm also a generational talent," Towns said of Wembanyama at Fanatics Fest NYC on Friday. "My generation hasn't passed yet, so I had, you know, I saved my time to utilize all that experience and stuff.
"I was just going out there, just doing whatever it takes for our team to win. If it wasn't going to be a dunk or a three, I still impacted the game, especially with defensive intensity, give us that spark needed, especially early in the game."
Karl-Anthony Towns stepped up to help Knicks win NBA Finals vs. Wemby, Spurs
Beyond Jalen Brunson's NBA Finals MVP leadership and OG Anunoby's historic clutch heroics, Karl-Anthony Towns simply served as the engine that drove the New York Knicks' 2026 championship run to beat Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs.
While his numbers declined and averaged just 13.0 points, 10.6 rebounds, and 2.4 assists across the five-game series, Towns' impact on the Knicks is immeasurable after anchoring the Knicks' offense and defense against San Antonio.
Serving as New York’s main defender against the French phenom, Towns limited Wembanyama to just 42.3% shooting from the field during the NBA Finals. His 18-point, 12-rebound effort in Game 1 and 21-point, 13-rebound performance in Game 2 led the Knicks' stunner in San Antonio to steal home-court advantage.
After struggling early in the season adjusting to the Knicks' new system under Mike Brown, Towns eventually cemented his case as a legend in New York after becoming a critical foundation of the franchise's first NBA title in 53 years.
"Like I said, generational talent, you got to bring a generational effort to a game, and if we want to do something special that hasn't been done in 53 years in New York, you know, I was going to have to take my game to another level," Towns concluded.
