Newcastle transfer news: Benoît Badiashile is rapidly running out of time at Stamford Bridge. The French centre-back has completely fallen out of favour in West London, and a summer exit now looks like the only logical conclusion for all parties involved. According to reports from Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport, both Napoli and Newcastle United have lodged formal enquiries to find out what it will take to pry the defender away from Chelsea. Napoli wanted a loan deal. The Chelsea hierarchy said no straight away. They want a permanent sale, and they want it this summer.

Xabi Alonso has no space for him. The Chelsea head coach wants dynamic, mobile defenders who can smell danger and stop counter-attacks before they start. Badiashile simply does not fit that profile. It is a brutal downfall for a player who arrived from AS Monaco back in January 2023 for a hefty €38m. He signed a marathon contract until June 2030, but that long-term commitment looks completely irrelevant now. Injuries ruined his entire 2025/26 campaign. He managed just one solitary minute of Champions League football against Napoli and a single 45-minute appearance in the Premier League against West Ham. You cannot build a defence around that lack of availability.
His market value has tanked as a result. Transfermarkt now values the 25-year-old at a modest €15m. That is a massive drop from the start of 2026, when Chelsea were still holding out for €35m to let him walk. Newcastle are watching this situation very closely. The recruiters at St James’ Park are desperate to find a left-footed central defender before the transfer window slams shut, and Badiashile is an ideal option for the Magpies. He still has the physical power to succeed in English football. The Chelsea defender just needs a manager who will actually put him on the pitch.

Chelsea need to accept they will take a massive financial hit and just move the player on. Holding out for a massive fee for someone who played less than an hour of league football last year is completely unrealistic. For Newcastle, securing a player with an international pedigree for around €15m is brilliant business.
