Marcus Rashford has replied to Morgan Rogers' latest Instagram post with a heart emoji following England's 6-4 win over France. Hours before that World Cup bronze match, news emerged that Chelsea had struck a sensational £117million agreement with Aston Villa for Rogers.

Arsenal had looked as the most likely destination for Rogers but he has instead joined their London rivals. The 23-year-old was named in Thomas Tuchel's starting XI and played the full 90 minutes but did not manage one goal contribution.

He did, however, grab the assist for Anthony Gordon's goal against Argentina and the rebound from shot in the win over Norway was tucked away by Jude Bellingham.

Following the 10-goal thriller, Rogers posted a serious of pictures to his Instagram account from the game. While he did not include a caption, there were plenty of international team-mates in the replies with Manchester United forward Rashford as one of those.

He simply replied with a heart emoji while Djed Spence, Jordan Henderson and Ezri Konsa were the England stars to also commented. Villa star Ian Maatsen also sent a message and the remainder of his replies were filled by excited Chelsea fans.

Rogers was convinced of a move to west London over north following a phone call with Xabi Alonso. football.london understands that Rogers was also told he would be the club's left-wing starter.

Due to his expected arrival, Alonso deploying a back four formation seems much more likely than his favoured system of a back three.

Despite that, wing-back Marco Palestra has already joined Chelsea from Atalanta after his switch to Inter Milan was hijacked. It seems more likely that Alonso will be flexible with his tactics especially given Rogers' versatility.

Chelsea have thus far been more busy with outgoings than new signings. Marc Cucurella has already left for Real Madrid while Enzo Fernandez continues to be linked with a move there.

Trevoh Chalobah has also been in talks with both Como and Inter while Malo Gusto has emerged as a target for Manchester City, who have appointed former Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca.

One of Liam Delap, Emmanuel Emegha or Nicolas Jackson is also expected to leave Stamford Bridge with Aston Villa emerging as an option, though Alonso is expected to take a closer look at him in pre-season.
