Liverpool are reportedly keen on completing the signing of Borussia Dortmund left-back Daniel Svensson before the end of the summer transfer window.
Andy Robertson’s legendary stint at left-back for the Reds has reached its conclusion, with the Scot sending a goodbye message to the fans on Instagram before joining Tottenham:
“I have spent all week telling the people in the building, players and staff how much they mean to me. Now it’s my turn to tell the most important people at the club how much they mean to me. That is you guys. From day 1 the love and support you have shown me has been unimaginable. Your support always gave me that extra motivation to be the best I could have been.
“We have had so many special nights and special days together and for that I’ll be forever grateful. The home games, away games, trips to Wembley or the parades. You guys ALWAYS show up in your numbers and I never took that for granted. You are the heartbeat of the club and the best fans in the world.
“Thank you for the reception yesterday, that will stay with me for the rest of my life. You guys are family. This isn’t a goodbye, it’s a see you soon. YNWA Robbo.”
Signing a new left-back is now key for Liverpool, unless Kostas Tsimikas returns as Milos Kerkez’s deputy, and Caught Offside report that they have a “concrete plan” to sign Svensson from Dortmund.
The 24-year-old could potentially cost as much as £42.5m, but that hasn’t stopped the Premier League giants from placing him “firmly on their transfer agenda.”
Arsenal, AC Milan, Juventus and Real Madrid are all seen as possible options for Svensson, too.

Svensson is a good player who has proven himself at a huge club, making 66 appearances for Dortmund and also winning 16 caps for Sweden, as well as being praised by Lars Ricken last year:
“He looked relatively settled. He looked to be incredibly fit and tactically clever. He didn’t shy away from any tackles and initiated [the 1-0] with his counter pressing.“
Svensson may have to accept that he isn’t a regular starter, given Kerkez’s quality, but he could arguably provide sterner competition than Tsimikas, and is a younger option than the Greek.
A new right-back could take precedence over left-back for Liverpool this summer, but if they were able to improve both positions, it would be ideal for Andoni Iraola.
