The New York Knicks had Moussa Cisse signed for about 10 hours. After they signed the restricted free agent to a two-year, $4.7 million offer sheet on Saturday, the Dallas Mavericks matched that offer late Saturday night, per ESPN’s Shams Charania.

Cisse cannot be traded to the Knicks now following this. The only way he can join New York is if the Mavericks waive him and make him an unrestricted free agent, to which New York can then sign him.
Cisse being waived is a real possibility, as the Mavericks have a full roster and a crowded center room. The Knicks, meanwhile, still need a third-string center, so Cisse would be a great fit.
Cisse would be a great Knicks fit
Cisse is a young, athletic big with a ton of defensive upside. He showcased his skills in front of the Knicks back in January in a game at Madison Square Garden in which Dallas blew out New York. Cisse recorded 15 points, nine rebounds, and four blocks in the Martin Luther King Jr. Day victory.

New York has been looking for a young replacement for Ariel Hukporti, who left the team for the Philadelphia 76ers at the start of free agency. The Knicks replaced Mitchell Robinson, who signed with the Boston Celtics, with Andre Drummond.
The Knicks are bringing back most of the group that came away as champions last month, with the exception of Robinson. They still have spots to fill out, and if they can find a way to bring in Cisse at some point, he could be a missing puzzle piece for them.
