Pacome Dadiet needed a strong Summer League finish. Instead, his Vegas run gave the Knicks another roster question to sort through.
The Pacome Dadiet averaged 15.3 points across four appearances, but he shot 36.4 percent from the field and 16 percent from three on 6.3 attempts per game. The rough shooting is the part that sticks because the Knicks need young players who can space the floor around Jalen Brunson and the rest of the title group.
He also missed the Knicks’ only win in Vegas, while his plus-minus marks in the four games were all negative. Plus-minus is not a complete evaluation, but paired with the shooting, it makes the week harder to sell as progress.

The Knicks cannot ignore the shooting
Dadiet’s G League work last season was much better. He averaged 23.1 points while shooting 46.6 percent, so there is enough evidence to believe the talent is real. The issue is whether that production can travel to an NBA role where the reads are faster and the space is tighter.
I do not think one bad Vegas stretch should decide his future. I also do not think the Knicks can keep handing out development minutes if the jumper is not forcing defenses to respect him.
The roster decision comes from that tension. New York can keep Dadiet close, use him as a two-way development piece, or listen when teams call about young players who have not found a clear role. None of those choices has to be final today.
The best answer is probably more patience with a stricter standard. Dadiet has to defend, move the ball, and make enough open threes to stay on the floor. The scoring flashes alone are not enough for this Knicks team.
He still has time to change the conversation. The next month will show whether Vegas was a bad week or a warning about the work still left to do.
