Veteran NBA insider Marc Stein dropped the trade revelation around the veteran Dallas center in his appearance on the DLLS Mavs Podcast.
"Daniel Gafford, they're still fielding offers on him," Stein said, via HoopsHype. "We've also discussed they'd rather trade Klay Thompson rather than buy Klay out. So, will we see some sort of trade that changes the roster, shuffles things further.
"I just think it'll be a lot easier to answer those questions when we know that the moves for the off-season are really done. And I just it makes little sense to me to proclaim them done. Like, at this point, we there are still plenty of questions, obviously."

Daniel Gafford averaged 9.5 points, 6.9 rebounds, 1.1 assists, and 1.25 blocks over 55 games while shooting 65.5% from the field in the 2025-26 season for the Dallas Mavericks.
He notably signed a three-year, $54.3 million contract extension with the franchise from last year's offseason, and the deal is set to begin this upcoming 2026-27 campaign, where he is estimated to earn $17.2 million.
Gafford notably landed in Dallas back in 2023-24 midseason after being traded by the Washington Wizards. His arrival served as a crucial element in the Mavs' eventual NBA Finals appearance led by Luka Doncic.
In the wake of the Mavs' consistent rejection of several teams' trade inquiries around Kyrie Irving, Gafford is reportedly in the mix among several veteran players made available by the team on the market.
As a solid and highly reliable big man, Gafford will certainly draw plenty of interest among several teams in desperate need of added size. Gafford can score consistently, grab boards and protect the paint.
It's now up to the Mavs which offer they will choose to part ways with Gafford.
