Adam Silver has recently joined the buzz surrounding LeBron James' free agency, but not only with the full intent of finally allowing the entire basketball world to end its long wait.
The NBA commissioner made headlines upon speaking on stage at the CNBC Sport x Boardroom Game Plan Summit during Fanatics Fest NYC, urging the 41-year-old superstar to name his next team as soon as possible. Silver claimed they cannot finalize or release the upcoming 2026–27 regular season schedule because James' destination completely dictates national television slots.
“I guess all politics are local. The way I think about it is, we have to finish up the schedule. Where LeBron plays will affect the schedule,” Silver said. “So I would like him to make his announcement already, so we can finish the schedule, because, as you might imagine, the teams are calling us, the networks are calling us, and everybody wants to lock in the schedule.
“But it will influence how we set the schedule, how we set opening week, Christmas Day, etc. So I need him to make a decision.”
But from the perspective of ESPN's Brian Windhorst, LeBron simply could not care less about what Silver has recently demanded.

Brian Windhorst dropped the notion in ESPN's NBA Today, arguing that the four-time league MVP will continue to take his time regardless of Adam Silver's pleas to finally reveal his next destination.
"This is one thing I can say with confidence: LeBron does not care about holding the league up with his schedule," the NBA expert and longtime LeBron reporter noted. "He will make them wait until he is good and ready to make a decision."
James has appeared in Fanatics Fest NYC and participated in plenty of shows. Yet despite everyone's clamor that he might finally name his next NBA team, the future Hall of Famer remained mum about where he might be heading.
