Chelsea are unlikely to hijack Man Utd’s move for Newcastle left-back Lewis Hall, according to reports.
The Blues have already managed to snap up Morgan Rogers from under the noses of Arsenal, but TEAMtalk claim they won’t be able to tempt Hall to make the switch to Stamford Bridge.
It is believed that the fullback has made a transfer to Old Trafford his “priority” if he does end up leaving St James’ Park.
Hall originally left Chelsea to join Newcastle three years ago, and it seems he has no intention of returning to the London club, despite the Blues considering him as a potential replacement for Marc Cucurella.
Will Man Utd table a bid for Hall?
At the moment, there is no indication that a formal approach for the 21-year-old is imminent. It is unlikely that finances would be the issue, with the Red Devils having only spent £85m on Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans so far this summer.
The fact is, Newcastle have given Michael Carrick’s side no encouragement. The Magpies have already sold Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali, and they are also struggling to keep hold of captain Bruno Guimaraes, who wants a move to Arsenal, so they don’t want to offload any more players.
Are United targeting any other left-backs?
Neco Williams has been linked with a switch to Old Trafford, although his club Nottingham Forest remain confident of tying down the Welshman to a new contract.
German international Nathaniel Brown was also thought to be high up the Red Devils’ list of transfer options, but he has subsequently completed a €55m switch to Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.
Barcelona’s Alejandro Balde was another player who has been monitored, but his departure from the Camp Nou seems unlikely.
There was a chance that he could have been let go if Barca had signed Cucurella from Chelsea, but after the 27-year-old joined Real Madrid, Balde is not expected to be on the market. It means Hall is very much the top target.
