Liverpool FC## Liverpool still has a fair bit more work to do in the transfer market this summer, but Man City and Chelsea have made things harder for sporting director Richard Hughes

So far this summer, Liverpool has signed Jeremy Jacquet and Victor Munoz for a combined sum of around $128 million (£95 million), but there is a clear need to invest further before the deadline.
This week, Andoni Iraola spoke openly about the need for more signings. On Monday, he pointed to the necessity to deepen his roster in a press conference; he later spoke about the requirement to find a replacement for Mohamed Salah.
It is no secret that Liverpool is in the market for a top-class forward, though, and those do not come cheap. While the Reds were willing to pay $117 million (£85 million) for Yan Diomande, that figure wasn't going to be enough.
At 19, however, it already looked like a fairly big gamble on a player who only has one year of senior-level experience at a club that is remotely comparable to playing for Liverpool.
RB Leipzig, given that it qualified for the Champions League and Diomande still has another four years left on his contract, is in a strong position to keep its star man, but such eye-watering price tags are not unusual.
Elliot Anderson has already moved to Manchester City for a fee of $156 million (£116 million), while earlier this weekend, it was revealed that Morgan Rogers would be heading to Chelsea for $157 million (£117 million).

Quite simply, the marker has been set for big-money moves. If PSG, for instance, is to let Bradley Barcola move on in search of more game time, it would be within its rights to use those figures as a starting point.
Diomande has never even played in the Champions League, let alone won it twice, like Barcola.
Anderson and Rogers, meanwhile, come with the Premier League and England squad premium, but neither has the pedigree of the PSG man right now.
The logic does not only apply to Barcola, either. Whoever it is that Liverpool targets — on the right wing or anywhere else — the summer has already been set up as a high-spending one.

Earlier in the window, Tottenham splashed $135m million (£100 million) on Sandro Tonali from Newcastle. Arguably even more incredibly, it also gave $114 million (£85 million) to relegated West Ham for Matheus Fernandes.
The Liverpool legend Steve Nicol argued this week that the Reds need to sign "five or six" quality players to bolster their ranks before September 1 (or ideally before, in order to get them up to speed as swiftly as possible).
While such a high volume of deals feels unrealistic — two or three would make a huge difference, alongside the return to fitness of key men including Alexander Isak — the reality is that even a smaller number of bodies is going to cost a fortune.
