There has been little progress in Jalen Duren and the Pistons' restricted free agency standoff, with Detroit still unwilling to entertain a possible sign-and-trade route.
More than three weeks into 2026 free agency, with several major deals already completed, Jalen Duren and the Detroit Pistons are reportedly still apart from resolving their ongoing contract standoff.
Per NBA insider Marc Stein, the Pistons are still determined to keep Duren and have not shown any intention of a potential sign-and-trade deal around the big man.
"Progress has been modest to this point in negotiations between the Pistons and Duren, according to sources briefed on the discussions," Stein wrote in his latest report.
"Sources say that the Pistons, though, also continue to brush aside any introduction of sign-and-trade scenarios to the talks that would land Duren elsewhere."

Jalen Duren remains stuck in the offseason market as a restricted free agent.
Disgruntled by the contract offer he received in Detroit, Duren notably pursued several meetings with interested teams such as the Los Angeles Lakers and the Sacramento Kings, seeking to leave the Pistons with his desired deal. But with LA already landing Walker Kessler and Sacramento still yet to submit an offer, Duren finds himself in a tough spot right now regarding his demands.
Recently, NBA insider Jake Fischer revealed that the Caris LeVert salary shed trade has allowed Duren and the Pistons to gain significant "momentum" in their ongoing negotiations. Yet despite this development, it seems that both sides are still far from striking an official deal.
Duren seized a breakout outing last 2025-26 to anchor Detroit's 60-win season, averaging 19.5 points, 10.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists while shooting 65% from the field in 70 regular season games en route to being named to his first career All-Star and All-NBA Third Team honors.
However, he endured one of the most brutal playoff drop-offs by an NBA star in league history, averaging just 10.2 points throughout Detroit's 14 postseason games. He and the Pistons were eliminated in the Conference Semifinals by the Cleveland Cavaliers.
