Logano ends skid
Joey Logano held off Denny Hamlin for his first NASCAR Cup Series victory of the season Sunday night in the first points race at North Wilkesboro (N.C.) Speedway in 30 years. Logano won for the 38th time in the Cup Series, ending a drought that went back to May 2025 at Texas Motor Speedway. The 36-year-old Logano extended his streak of winning at least one race to 15 consecutive seasons, the longest streak among active drivers. The late Kyle Busch holds the record, winning in 19 straight seasons (2005-2023). Hamlin finished second, followed by Chase Briscoe, Ty Gibbs and Shane van Gisbergen. Logano entered the race outside of the top 16 in the Chase for the playoffs. Logano took the lead in Stage 2 and dominated the remainder of the race, leading 323 of 450 laps in a race that featured just five cautions. Ryan Blaney and Todd Gilliland reached the finals of the NASCAR In-Season Challenge. Blaney defeated Christopher Bell head-to-head in the semifinals on Sunday night, while Gilliland topped Chase Elliott. The champion will be decided next Sunday in Indianapolis at the Brickyard 400 with the driver finishing higher in the race awarded the $1 million prize.
Antonelli back on top
Kimi Antonelli always believed he had the momentum in the Formula 1 title race even when results didn't go his way. He made it count with a dominant win Sunday as his teammate and title rival George Russell failed to finish in the Belgian Grand Prix. Antonelli saw off a challenge from Charles Leclerc to get back to winning ways after reliability issues had allowed Russell to whittle down his lead in recent weeks. Russell was left fuming in a gravel trap at his Mercedes car's shortcomings. Antonelli started on pole but lost the lead to Leclerc when a virtual safety car slowdown allowed the Ferrari driver to save time during his pit stop. Antonelli sped back past Leclerc with 10 laps remaining and cruised from there to his sixth win of the season -- and his F1 career -- and first since last month's Monaco Grand Prix. It gives him a 45-point overall lead and keeps the 19-year-old firmly on target to become F1's youngest-ever champion. With six wins, Antonelli is now joint-second all-time among Italian F1 drivers, behind only Alberto Ascari, a 13-time Grand Prix winner and two-time champion in the early 1950s. In a marker-pen message on a champagne bottle, Antonelli dedicated the win to his father, former sportscar racer Marco Antonelli, whose birthday was on Saturday.

Hawks acquire Dort
Oklahoma City traded starting forward and defensive standout Lu Dort to Atlanta as part of a three-team deal in which the Hawks also sent former No. 1 draft pick Zaccharie Risacher to Dallas. Atlanta also will receive Ryan Nembhard from Dallas and the Thunder will be getting three heavily protected second-round draft picks. The NBA signed off on the trade Sunday. The trade allows the Thunder to shed the salary needed to get below the second apron, gives the Hawks another top defender in Dort and gives the Mavericks a third No. 1 overall pick -- the most currently on one roster in the NBA. Risacher will join 2011 top pick Kyrie Irving and 2025 top pick Cooper Flagg in Dallas. Dort averaged 11.6 points over his first seven seasons, all with the Thunder. Risacher -- a runner-up for Rookie of the Year in 2024-25 -- averaged 11.1 points in two seasons with Atlanta and Nembhard averaged 6.6 points for Dallas as a rookie this past season.
Bueckers, Reese hurt
WNBA All-Stars Paige Bueckers and Angel Reese went down with injuries in separate games Sunday. The Dallas guard Bueckers, last season's Rookie of the Year who was voted to her second All-Star team this year, exited after colliding with Nneka Ogwumike of the Los Angeles Sparks. During the Wings' 90-82 victory, Ogwumike was fouled as she ran downcourt and, as she fell to the ground, collided with Bueckers with about 3 1/2 minutes to play and Dallas leading by four. Both players remained down on the court for a couple of minutes. Ogwumike stayed in the game while Bueckers -- who appeared to hit the back of her head on the floor -- walked to the locker room and did not return. Bueckers exited after scoring a game-high 25 points. She is averaging 20.7 points on 51.6% shooting, 6.3 assists and 3.7 rebounds this season. The Atlanta Dream forward Reese, selected to her third All-Star appearance in her third season, left with a knee injury during a 93-91 victory over the Chicago Sky. Reese played her first two seasons with Chicago. Her knee buckled when she came to a jump stop under the basket early in the fourth quarter and she fell to the ground as she missed the layup. She got up quickly, but went down again after a few seconds. Reese returned to the bench and the Dream ruled her out for the rest of the game. Reese is leading the league with 11.8 rebounds and 14 double-doubles. She is averaging 15.7 points.

Mazzoli takes victory
Stefano Mazzoli of Italy won the Corales Puntacana Championship on Sunday for his first PGA Tour victory, closing with a 6-under 66 for a one-stroke victory in the Dominican Republic. The 29-year-old Mazzoli was one of 50 European tour players in the co-sanctioned event played opposite the British Open. He earned a PGA Tour card through 2027 and jumped from 127th to 39th in the DP World Tour's Race to Dubai standings. "I'm just grateful and honored to win on tour," Mazzoli said. "That was a dream since I was a kid." Four strokes behind Todd Clements entering the round on the windswept Corales course, Mazzoli made a 24-foot birdie putt on the par-4 18th to post a 20-under 268. He accepted PGA Tour membership after the round. Clements, the English player who led after each of the first three days, had a 71 to tie for second with Gordon Sargent (67). Ben James (70) and Will Gordon (66) were 18 under. James was making his fifth start at a professional. The former Virginia star earned a tour spot through the PGA Tour University ranking. Jacob Skov Olesen (Arkansas Razorbacks) shot a 68 in the final round to finish at 17 under in a three-way tie for sixth with Joe Highsmith and Marcel Schneider. Austin Cook (Jonesboro/Razorbacks) shot a final-round 71 and finished in a 14-way tie for 48th at 8 under.

Ward, 62, dies
Duane Ward, a two-time World Series champion and one of the most accomplished relievers in Toronto Blue Jays history, has died of natural causes, the team announced Sunday. He was 62. The team said Ward arrived in Toronto on Friday with several former teammates from the 1992 and 1993 championship teams but was absent from Saturday's pregame ceremony celebrating those victories with a statue unveiling. More than two dozen players, coaches and executives from those teams took part in the event inside and outside the Rogers Centre. "Duane will always be a cherished part of the Blue Jays family, and we will be forever grateful for his contributions to our organization and to baseball in Canada," the team said in a statement. Ward appeared in 452 games for Toronto between 1986 and 1995. His 121 career saves are the most in franchise history. Ward earned his lone All-Star appearance in 1993, going on to lead the American League with 45 saves. That total remains the Blue Jays' single-season record. Ward was the winning pitcher in the Game 6 of the 1993 World Series against Philadelphia, which was decided by Joe Carter's series-winning, walk-off home run.
