This summer will be one that former Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella never forgets.
Cucurella has just won the World Cup after Spain’s 1-0 win against Argentina in Sunday’s final. It means the defender has now got his hands on both the World Cup and European Championship trophies.
Cucurella also secured a big-money move to Real Madrid, which will see him return to his homeland and get the opportunity to play for arguably the biggest club in the world.
Despite his new world champion status, you would not exactly call Cucurella a galactico signing. Nevertheless, Real Madrid are still expecting big things from him.

Former Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella is going to bring a lot of joy to Real Madrid supporters
According to Defensa Central, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is convinced that Cucurella will bring much joy to the club’s supporters for years to come.
After watching Cucurella at the World Cup and in a Chelsea shirt, you would not bet against Perez.
Cucurella is one of the best left-backs in the world and has proven that at the World Cup. Defensively, he was impenetrable.

In fact, you could argue that the Spaniard is the best left-back in football. Right now, it is probably between him and Paris Saint-Germain’s Nuno Mendes.
As well as being a terrific defender, Cucurella is a tenacious footballer who competes for every ball and is not scared of any forward. Real Madrid fans are going to love his footballing ability and character.

There are some similarities between Chelsea target Pep Chavarria and Cucurella, but Blues fans cannot expect the Rayo Vallecano man to be as solid as the World Cup winner. There is no guarantee that Chelsea sign him either, with the club struggling to agree a transfer fee with his current employers.
Ideally, Chelsea would have liked to keep Cucurella. But the Spain international’s contract was running down and he wanted a new challenge.
