The Golden State Warriors have been crowned the champions of the Vegas Summer League. They clinched the title after defeating the Memphis Grizzlies, 94-90, tonight.
Yaxel Lendeborg, the Warriors’ 23-year-old rookie, had 21 points, 10 rebounds, two assists, and two steals as he led all scorers for the Warriors. He shot 9-18 from the field (50.0 FG%) and 2-6 from beyond the three-point line (33.3 FG%).
Consequently, he was awarded the MVP for this championship game, recognizing his relentless efforts to lead the Warriors to their first piece of silverware before he even played his first regular season game.
Including all the editions of the event, he ended the Summer League averaging 14.8 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game while shooting 45.9% from the floor.
Lendeborg outdueled Cameron Boozer of the Grizzlies tonight, who had previously led Memphis to a win over the Warriors in the Summer League less than a week ago.
Boozer ended the game with 19 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and two steals while shooting 7-17 from the floor (41.1 FG%) and 3-7 from behind the three-point line (42.8 FG%). Individually, Boozer had a solid performance tonight.
But Lendeborg, who seemingly targets this matchup as a rivalry, got the last laugh tonight.
Following this game, Lendeborg spoke to Vanessa Richardson, the sideline reporter, and detailed his vision and goals for the regular season after leading this young team to a title in the summer.
“Well, I’ma bring a lot of energy. I’m gonna be the most energetic playing guy on the floor every night. I’ma try to bring as many positive vibes as possible. And for the Warriors, what a great way to start the IREN, you know, organization and the sponsorship. So let’s go, Dubs,”said Lendeborg.
The Warriors’ fans were fired up to see their rookie steal the spotlight tonight, especially against the No. 3 overall pick, Boozer. They flooded social media with praise for the 23-year-old Lendeborg.
