Dominik Szoboszlai has signed a new long-term contract with English top-flight club Liverpool FC, extending his stay ahead of schedule. The captain of the Hungarian national football team has committed his future to the Reds for the long term—according to English media reports, until 2031. The new deal sends a clear message about his sporting ambitions.
Liverpool FC and Dominik Szoboszlai will continue their partnership for years to come. The club, which finished fifth in last season’s Premier League, announced on Friday that the 25-year-old midfielder had signed a new long-term contract. While Liverpool did not disclose the exact duration of the deal, reports from England and a statement from his agency, EM Sports, confirmed that the new contract runs until 2031.
Szoboszlai’s previous contract was set to run until 2027.
Three years ago, Szoboszlai joined Liverpool from German Bundesliga side RB Leipzig. Since then, the Hungarian international has celebrated winning the Premier League with the Reds and has become one of the team’s most influential players over the past three seasons, as well as a firm fan favorite.

During the 2025/26 season, Liverpool fans voted Dominik Szoboszlai as the club’s Player of the Season. His spectacular free-kick against eventual champions Arsenal was also chosen as the club’s Goal of the Season.
Capable of playing both in central midfield and at right-back, the Hungarian athlete contributed 13 goals and 12 assists throughout the campaign.
He also collected numerous individual honors. Szoboszlai was named Player of the Month five times and earned the Player of the Match award on eight occasions. Overall, he has made 147 competitive appearances for Liverpool, scoring 28 goals. He is also joined at the club by fellow Hungarians Milos Kerkez and goalkeeper Ármin Pécsi.

The Hungarian star spoke emotionally after signing his new contract.
It is maybe my biggest day. But there are a couple in front of it – probably when I signed for Liverpool the first one and when I got my baby, of course. But in my football career, I can say this is in the top three.”
Szoboszlai told the club’s official website.
Despite his rapid rise and an estimated market value now exceeding €100 million, according to Transfermarkt, the 25-year-old remains highly motivated. “I am happy with myself but I think I can do even better. I think that is why I am sitting here, because that pushed me since I was a kid: that it was never enough. And I am thinking the same now.” Szoboszlai added he wanted to win everything possible in this country—and also the Champions League.

Behind the scenes, negotiations over the extension had continued for several months.
Szoboszlai’s manager, Mátyás Esterházy, said initial talks began in October and intensified over the last six weeks.
“Since both sides wanted the same outcome, we managed to reach an agreement before the start of the new season that everyone is happy with,” Esterházy explained. “With this contract, Dominik has reached the level he truly deserves. The world elite is not a stepping stone for him—he is now a permanent member of that exclusive group.”
The new agreement also puts an end to the speculation surrounding Szoboszlai’s future in recent months. Feeling settled in England with his family, he is now fully focused on the upcoming season under Spanish head coach Andoni Iraola.
After returning to training on Tuesday, Liverpool will travel to the United States next week for their pre-season tour, where they are scheduled to play friendly matches against Sunderland, Wrexham, and Leeds United. Liverpool’s new Premier League campaign begins on August 23 with an away match against Newcastle United, while the club will also return to the Champions League group stage.
