When he first joined the academy coaching staff at Arsenal David Horseman indicated that he would be willing to give chances to younger prospects than usual when the opportunity arose.
On Friday night, Horseman, who is now in temporary charge of the Arsenal U21 side and is likely to get the job permanently, named schoolboy Mikael Bonaventure Yetna in the matchday squad to face Boreham Wood.
It had already been evident from last season that Arsenal hold Bonaventure Yetna in high regard as he featured at U19 and U18 levels.
This season the prospect will be looking to establish himself as a key figure for the U18s and opportunities for older age groups can’t be ruled out.
A versatile player, Bonaventure Yetna was used in numerous positions at U16 level last season including at right-back and as a winger.
It seems, though, that his best position is in midfield, where he can make use of both his attacking and defensive attributes.
A player who is strong physically for his age, the 15-year-old is capable of breaking up play well and can also support the attack when required.
There is a lot of competition for places in the Arsenal academy sides but Bonaventure Yetna will be aiming to show that he is a player who is capable of consistently making an impact above his age group.
