Aston Villa enquired about the availability of Chelsea outcast Nicolas Jackson during the Morgan Rogers talks, sources have told Football Insider.

The London giants have slapped a £60million price tag on the 25-year-old striker this summer.

However, Villa are more keen on an initial loan deal for Jackson before making a decision on signing him permanently.

The attacker is keen to move to Villa Park this summer after previously working under Unai Emery at Villarreal.

Jackson’s importance at Chelsea has diminished over the last 12 months and he was loaned out to Bayern Munich last season.

He scored 11 goals in 34 matches in all competitions as the German giants won the Bundesliga title and the DFB-Pokal.

Is Nicolas Jackson good enough to have an impact at Aston Villa?

Jackson’s reputation took a hit at Chelsea as he became known for missing multiple good chances.

In the 2024-25 campaign, he only netted 10 Premier League goals and underperformed his xG by 2.34, which resulted in him being loaned out to Bayern.

However, in the Bundesliga, despite his limited game time, he proved that he was still a significant threat.

According to Fotmob on 20 July, he averaged 0.72 goals, a 0.65 xG, 3.41 shots, 1.88 shots on target, 0.09 assists, a 0.14 xA, 1.61 chances created and 8.52 touches in the opposition box per 90 minutes.

On top of this, Jackson’s form continued into the 2026 World Cup. While he did not score a goal for Senegal, he picked up an assist and proved to be a massive threat in the 3-1 defeat to France.

Therefore, Emery may believe that he can once again get the best out of Jackson this season.

Who else are Aston Villa looking to sign this summer?

Villa have also been heavily linked to Southampton star Leo Scienza this summer transfer window.

The 25-year-old winger shone in the Championship last season, which resulted in Villa registering their interest.

However, Football Insider has now exclusively revealed that Southampton want £35m for Scienza this summer.

The Saints do not want to sell the winger as they look to gain promotion to the Premier League.

However, it remains to be seen if Villa can get a deal over the line for Scienza as they begin to search for replacements for Rogers.
