The Brazilian finds himself at the centre of a transfer storm amid speculation about a potential move to Arsenal. Only France star Michael Olise - who broke the tournament record - registered more assists (seven) than Guimaraes (four).
However, the Toon captain missed a vital spot-kick as Brazil crashed out to Norway at the quarter-final stage. Guimaraes is now enjoying an extended break, with his Newcastle teammates beginning pre-season training last week.

Likewise, Dan Burn, the Newcastle player who went the furthest at the World Cup, will be given until August 8. That leaves the England international just 16 days to get up to speed before the Premier League campaign kicks off on August 23.

As it stands, Newcastle have not received a formal approach from Arsenal. While the club wish to avoid Alexander Isak 2.0, they do not want - or need - to sell their skipper.
Offloading Gordon and Tonali has given the Magpies headroom in the market. For now, Newcastle sit and wait for the Gunners to formalise their interest.
Guimaraes is open to an Arsenal move but also does not want to derail his relationship with the Newcastle fan base. Unlike the Isak saga - where the transfer fee was never considered an obstacle - the two clubs remain apart in terms of valuation.
Any sale would be done on Newcastle’s terms, who are wary of looking weak after already losing two high-profile stars. For now, unless Arsenal come to the table, it appears they have unsettled United’s best player for no apparent reason.
