Trevor Lawrence finished the 2025 season on a heater with 29 total touchdowns to just nine turnovers in the final 10 games. It was the second time Lawrence received MVP votes in his career, as he took a huge step in his development. Now, it’s time for him to put it all together for an entire season.
Why Trevor Lawrence Can Win MVP
Heading into the 2023 season, Trevor Lawrence was a common pick for MVP. Calvin Ridley had been added to an already strong receiving core and would be heading into his second season under head coach Doug Pederson. It appeared things would be on an upward trajectory for Lawrence, but it did not play out that way.
Three years later, we are in a similar position. Lawrence is coming off the best season of his career with the best skill-position group of his career and a second season under his head coach and offensive coordinator. However, there are some key differences.
Key Differences
Press Taylor took over play-calling duties in 2023, and it was a dramatic difference in how the offense was run, not to mention the offensive line was in a considerably worse state than what it is currently. Additionally, Lawrence’s best games in 2022 came in huge late-game comebacks, which is typically not sustainable from year to year, whereas in 2025, Lawrence dominated from start to finish and did not play in multiple fourth quarters.
The biggest similarity is Lawrence’s chemistry with his X wide receiver. He and Ridley were consistently not on the same page, and the duo fell short of expectations. Despite Lawrence and the offense’s dominance in 2025, wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. struggled to find his footing throughout the season.
Much of Thomas Jr.’s production in 2024 came with Mac Jones at quarterback, and it is still to be determined if he and Lawrence can work together as a duo. Lawrence’s chemistry with Parker Washington and Jakobi Meyers is exceptional, but his ability to connect with Brian Thomas Jr. will be the difference between having a good season or an MVP season.
The Potential for MVP
This is by far the best supporting cast Lawrence will have at his disposal in his career. Receivers Parker Washington and Jakobi Meyers are the glue guys that Lawrence has the utmost trust in, Thomas Jr. has the talent to take over a game at any moment, and former Heisman winner Travis Hunter will be a nice addition in key spots as the fourth option. A running game to balance things for the passing attack, a defense that can create extra possessions for the offense, and one of the best offensive minds in the NFL will all contribute to Lawrence’s success.
His growth as a quarterback has also improved considerably. Lawrence has had trouble throwing with touch, panicking in the pocket with ugly footwork, forcing passes that should have been thrown away, and not throwing with timing or anticipation. Towards the end of the season, we saw a lot of that change. His experience in the league helped him adjust his play style, and plays with considerably more poise, allowing his footwork and pocket presence to flourish. Heading into year six, everything is falling into place at the right time for Lawrence, which is why he has a strong case for an MVP season in 2026.
