Liverpool have appointed Spanish goalkeeping coach Alejandro Rosalen as part of Andoni Iraola‘s staff, as Xavi Valero steps down after a season back at Anfield.
Valero had returned to fill the void left by Fabian Otte last summer, but communicated his desire to leave before the end of his first campaign back on Merseyside.
The 53-year-old, who had previously served as Liverpool’s goalkeeping coach for three years under Rafa Benitez between 2007 and 2010, has returned to his native Spain.
Liverpool have now announced the appointment of former Valencia U19, Videoton, Fiorentina and Napoli goalkeeping coach Rosalen as his replacement.

Rosalen is set to join Iraola’s staff on the pre-season tour in the United States, working with goalkeeper development and pathway lead Colin Stewart who had briefly covered the lead role.
The 49-year-old spent the last five years at Napoli but left at the end of last season as part of a turnover of staff that led to Massimiliano Allegri’s appointment as head coach.
He is the first outside appointment to Iraola’s staff, which now includes former Bournemouth assistants Tommy Elphick, Shaun Cooper and Pablo de la Torre along with analyst Tom Webber.
Liverpool’s wider coaching, fitness and analysis setup has remained, with individual development lead coach Luiz Fernando Iubel among those heavily involved in pre-season so far.

In terms of the players Rosalen will be working with, Alisson is still No. 1 as it stands despite suggestions of new interest from Saudi Arabia.
Giorgi Mamardashvili is in place as backup, while Vitezslav Jaros is recovering from a serious knee injury and youngster Armin Pecsi will be vying for opportunities.
The likes of Pecsi, Kornel Misciur, Harvey Davies and Bailey Hall will work more closely with Stewart, particularly with Liverpool assessing any potential for loan moves this summer.
