Manchester United legend Bryan Robson has reportedly urged his former club to make a move for Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimarães this summer, with the Brazilian currently at the centre of a transfer battle involving Premier League rivals Arsenal.
The former United captain believes Guimarães would be an ideal addition to the Old Trafford midfield and has suggested the club should consider hijacking Arsenal’s efforts to secure the 28-year-old’s signature. Robson reportedly views the Newcastle star as a player capable of bringing leadership, energy and quality to United’s engine room.
Guimarães has become one of the most highly rated midfielders in the Premier League since joining Newcastle, establishing himself as a key figure and captain at St James’ Park. His performances have attracted significant interest, with Arsenal believed to be exploring a deal as they look to strengthen their squad.

The former Manchester United captain has said that the Brazilian would be the perfect replacement for Casemiro, adding: “I’ve always liked him as a captain. He’s got a great attitude. He must be a good lad to have around the place. He’s carried himself really well at Newcastle.”
“Bruno Guimaraes can do all that for you too. He’s a midfield player who can do a little bit of both, in attacking and in defence, and he’s got a very good engine.”
However, any move would depend on whether United are willing to match Newcastle’s asking price and whether the player would prefer a move to Old Trafford over a switch to north London. Arsenal’s interest appears to have placed them at the front of the queue, although no agreement has been reached between the clubs.
