NY Giants’ RB Cam Skattebo reacts to furor over failed backflip

New York Giants running back **Cam Skattebo** went viral over the weekend for [**a backflip flop**](/post/adaThuG_fH9v) at Fanatics Fest in New York City. He reacted to the five-alarm fire that set off in some corners of the fanbase by promising not to get hurt before training camp.

> “I’m gonna address the elephant. I will not hurt myself before the season,” Skattebo said Sunday during a Q and A on Sirius XM.

Skattebo did admit to realizing during the flip that he wasn’t going to stick the landing.

> “Yeah, so what happened was, I don’t know if you guys know WWE or not, those floors are bouncy,” Skattebo said. “So when I took off, I was mid-air, like, holy cow, I’m not gonna land this, I’m way too high. Landed, but it had too much cushion. It wasn’t a stiff, firm ground. So that’s why I kinda like went back, safely landed, got back up, was good to go. So nothing came out from that. I’m perfectly fine. Nothing happened. We’re good.”

Skattebo said he enjoys the wild man persona.

> “I totally enjoy that part. I think I less enjoy the brain dead kind of guy. But it is what it is,” Skattebo said. “I mean, the New York people love it, so I’m just gonna keep being me. And if they wanna say I’m brain dead and I don’t have no brain, then who cares? F--- it, you know?”

Most importantly, Skattebo, coming back from a severe right ankle dislocation, said he is “ready to go.”

> I mean, we did our throwing trip. Obviously I have to keep working and conditioning it and stuff, but we did our throwing trip and I mean, he (Jaxson Dart) can kind of tell you how I look,’“ Skattebo said.

Dart agreed that the running back “looks great.”

> “I feel great. I would say the last two weeks of my training has felt the most normal, and it’s been excellent,” Skattebo said. “I feel great and I’m ready to go.”

Giants fans just want him to stay that way.
