Chelsea and Aston Villa have agreed a deal worth £117 million for Morgan Rogers but talks also included another player.
The Blues' move for Rogers will see their summer spending top £200 million with Xabi Alonso playing a crucial role in convincing the 23-year-old to join his project.
Negotiations didn't just include the England international, though.
Aston Villa asked about Chelsea player during Morgan Rogers talks
According to BBC Sport's Nizaar Kinsella (via Talk Chelsea), Unai Emery's Villa asked about the conditions of a possible deal to bring Nicolas Jackson the other way.
Jackson has been a peripheral figure at Stamford Bridge in recent times. The 25-year-old spent last season on loan with Bayern Munich but wasn't signed permanently.
Now back in west London, the Senegal international awaits to learn what sort of role he's going to play under Xabi Alonso.
As things stand, the former Villarreal forward is training with the rest of the squad and preparing to jet off to Australia and Asia for the Blues' pre-season tour.
It's going to be interesting to see exactly how much he features before Chelsea's first Premier League game away to Fulham next month.
Chelsea's summer plans could change
Despite another Premier League being interested in him — one which can offer him a more important role — there is a very real possibility that Jackson ends up staying with the Blues for the new 2026-27 campaign, but that is mostly due to neither Marc Guiu nor Liam Delap being up to scratch.
If the Blues end up offloading either, or both, then Jackson will almost certainly not be leaving too. This could be why Villa's agreement to sell Rogers hasn't included Jackson, despite the Villains trying.
Working with Emery is an attractive option for every player. The experienced tactician is one of Europe's most highly rated and proven managers. If anyone can help take Jackson's game to the next level, it's the five-time UEFA Europa League winner.
Nevertheless, with Chelsea focusing on bringing in Crystal Palace's Maxence Lacroix next, signing a new striker is not the priority. If that changes, then expect Villa to try again for Jackson.
During his six years at Stamford Bridge, Jackson, who has seven years left on his contract, has scored 30 goals and registered 12 assists in 81 matches in all competitions. He was part of the Blues' squad that lifted the 2024-25 UEFA Conference League and 2015 FIFA Club World Cup.
