The World Cup finished last night with a dire final between Argentina and Spain. In club terms, that means the clock is ticking on every one of Chelsea’s players who were at the tournament as they prepare to come back for preseason.
Kieran Gill of the Daily Mail has prepared a handy list so we can see when the waves of first team stars will be back. First up, this week we’ve got the bulk of the players, who will be back at Cobham by the end of this week.
That includes Jorrel Hato, Nicolas Jackson, Moises Caicedo, Mamadou Sarr and Kendry Paez. By this time next week, Xabi Alonso will be working with a very strong group.

Next up are the players who went deeper into the tournament. Pedro Neto is back next week, then Mike Penders is back on the first of August, despite not having played a minute for Belgium.
The final group are the French and English and Argentines who made it to the semi finals or beyond: Reece James, Trecoh Chalobah and Malo Gusto have almost three weeks off from now, and come back in mid August. By that time, most of our preseason will be done.
We suspect that final group won’t be going on the pre-season trip to Australia, Hong Kong and Malaysia.

Chelsea’s plans to sign Pep Chavarria are looking increasingly unlikely – the Blues have been forced to consider returning to other targets previously considered too expensive.
