Mitchell Robinson is an important addition to the Boston Celtics.
The NBA champion from the New York Knicks signed earlier this month in free agency, and he brings an important skillset to the interior as another center option alongside Neemias Queta.
Something funny happens every year with Robinson, though -- offseason videos start emerging of him looking like an entirely different player.
The most famous video is this clip, now multiple years old, where Robinson is showing off an improbable handle and shooting stroke:

Celtics fans, since Robinson signed, have also latched onto this footage of Robinson looking like he has improved his free throw shooting:

The reality, though, is that this offseason footage never really tells the story with Robinson.
Take his foul shots: He's a career 50.8% foul shooter, including an atrocious 40.8% in 2025-26. Could he improve? Probably. Is it going to be drastic? Probably not.
And the 3-point shooting is hilarious when taken in the big picture, because Robinson has never even attempted a 3-pointer in an NBA regular season game.
Maybe the Celtics will ask him to try a few in the preseason to see what happens, given the way their offense operates, but it's not a part of his game at all.
NBA players are so superior to other hoopers that offseason mixtapes often look like this. Ben Simmons was also famous for looking like he had a useful jumper during the summer, only for it to be invisible once NBA action returned.
Robinson does a lot of things well, but don't expect him to turn into a perimeter weapon for the Celtics.
