There are lots of opportunities for running backs on the Green Bay Packers’ roster this summer. The RB2 job behind Josh Jacobs is effectively up for grabs, and that role could take on even more importance depending on how Jacobs’ legal situation plays out.
Yes, Chris Brooks is firmly entrenched as the team’s third down back. But the Packers need a chance of pace back behind Jacobs, at a minimum, and training camp will surely decide who earns that role.
Dows MarShawn Lloyd stay healthy and take control of the job? Will another young player emerge from the pack ahead of him? Is there a chance the Packers keep four running backs on the roster as well?
These questions and more will start to get some answers next week when the team begins training camp. Until then, we’ll keep looking ahead at the intriguing position battles to come.
Jobs will be on the line this summer and a few Packers have huge opportunities to earn more playing time - or to get cut if they fail to impress. Perhaps nobody has a bigger potential swing than third year running back MarShawn Lloyd.
Meanwhile, there are plenty of eager young players looking to stake their claim to a spot on the 53. Could Damien Martinez be the diamond in the rough at running back?
Its a bit of an odd exercise, but the answer is probably a resounding no. For the Packers, only new cornerback Benjamin St-Juste gets picked for the squad.
This makes perfect sense ahead of the two mentioned college football programs meeting at Lambeau in early September.
Unsurprisingly, it’s the “again” that has me fascinated by this story.
