Liverpool are set to join goalkeeper Armin Pecsi to Austrian club TSV Hartberg, with the Hungarian left out of the travelling squad for this month’s USA tour.

Pecsi has not flown as part of Andoni Iraola‘s senior squad for their three-stop tour of the United States, as he closes in on a season-long loan.

The Athletic‘s James Pearce is among those to report that the 21-year-old is set to join Hartberg for the 2026/27 campaign, providing him with a valuable opportunity for regular first-team football.

A £1.5 million signing from Puskas Akademia in 2025, Pecsi was first choice for Liverpool U21s last season as well as training daily with the first team and making the bench on five occasions.

He came close to a senior debut after Freddie Woodman – himself filling in for the absent Alisson and Giorgi Mamardashvili – went down with an injury against Crystal Palace in April.

Woodman stayed on and left Pecsi to return to the bench after his warmup, but he is now expected to contend for the No. 1 position out on loan.

Hartberg finished sixth in last season’s Austrian Bundesliga and are currently led by head coach Manfred Schmid, who is into his third year in charge.

They have seen both of their senior goalkeepers leave this summer, with No. 1 Tom Ritzy Hulsmann sold to Stade de Reims and backup Ammar Helac joining rivals Sturm Graz on a free transfer.

Will Armin Pecsi be No. 1 at TSV Hartberg?

It would suggest that Pecsi could be in line for the first-choice role at Hartberg, with Liverpool seeking assurances over game time before any deal is agreed.

The plan had always been for the talented stopper to spend a campaign adjusting to the standards of English football and at the AXA Training Centre before gaining further experience on loan.

Pecsi will be the first player to leave Liverpool on a temporary basis this summer, but he is unlikely to be the last in what promises to be a busy final six weeks of the transfer window.

Ifeanyi Ndukwe, Jayden Danns, Kieran Morrison, Amara Nallo, Tommy Pilling and Keyrol Figueroa could be among those who also head elsewhere.
