Chelsea are set to announce the signing of Morgan Rogers with the Aston Villa star spotted at Cobham ahead of a medical – and Joe Cole has predicted Enzo Fernandez will now leave.
A real coup from BlueCo, Chelsea have agreed a £117m deal to land Rogers from Aston Villa. A deal that makes Rogers the most expensive English player ever, and the fourth biggest deal in footballing history.

Only Neymar, Kylian Mbappe, and Alexander Isak have cost more than Rogers. Chelsea agreed to pay a £117m fee after being informed that they would have to pay more than Man City paid for Elliot Anderson.
Rogers is at Cobham undergoing a medical currently, ahead of signing a contract until the summer of 2032 with the option of an extra year. Joe Cole has had his say, predicting Enzo Fernandez will depart.

Why Cole is wrong to predict Rogers’ arrival means Enzo leaves
Rogers’ price tag is obviously a huge one, regardless of whether Chelsea have got themselves a bargain or have paid too much. There is a feeling that Chelsea may have to sell to balance the books once again.

Speaking on The Rest Is Football, Chelsea icon Cole said he is delighted with the arrival of Rogers but believes his arrival means Enzo Fernandez will leave. Fernandez is rated by Chelsea at a whopping £120m.
“I’m really happy because he’s such a top, top player and he’s performed well,” Cole said. ‘But I think that means Enzo is probably out the door because you’ve got to balance the books somewhere.
“I think he’ll play off the left and he’s really good friends with Cole Palmer. I think that’s a really good signing. I’m not sure where we’re finding the money from to be honest,” Cole added on Rogers’ arrival.
What Cole has not entertained is that Chelsea have already received £134.5m in upfront payments this summer, with more to sell. Real Madrid paid an initial fee of £47.5m for World Cup winner Marc Cucurella.
A further £48m has been added to Chelsea’s coffers for Andrey Santos, while Everton have paid an up-front fee of £18m for Tyrique George. Another £4m for Jimmy-Jay Morgan, and £17m for Enzo Maresca.

That’s a whopping total of £134.5m paid in initial fees only, with add-ons to come for Cucurella, Santos and George. Chelsea have already covered the fee to sign Rogers, albeit with Marco Palestra signed too.
Cole did get one thing right: Rogers will play on the left
Reports say that during talks to sign Rogers, Chelsea ran with the pitch that Rogers would be operating on the left flank. It sees Cole Palmer remain in the middle of Chelsea’s attack, and Joao Pedro up top.

The right wing remains up for grabs with Geovany Quenda arriving to find Pedro Neto and Estevao are his competition. But it is an incredibly strong quartet of attacking players that will strike fear into opponents.
No doubt, Rogers is a massive signing for Chelsea, and ultimately, it doesn’t mean Chelsea will sell their Argentine midfielder even after his red card in the World Cup final. Chelsea may struggle to find a suitor.
