The Green Bay Packers will enter training camp at the end of July with several young players facing a lot of pressure as they’re asked to step into starting roles this upcoming season. However, one former first-round pick in particular could have the most at stake.
Packers’ reporter Matt Schneidman of The Athletic named left tackle Jorgan Morgan as the player with “the most on the line” for the team entering the 2026 NFL season.

“Morgan, the Packers’ 2024 first-round pick, started at left tackle for Arizona in college and said shortly after arriving in Green Bay that he wanted to prove he could be an NFL left tackle, too, despite questions about his arm length. Through two seasons, he hasn’t played a meaningful snap at left tackle and instead shuffled between three other spots on the offensive line. He’ll finally get his chance this season to protect Jordan Love’s blind side, and the Packers’ Super Bowl chances might hinge on his ability to do so.”

Green Bay made its intentions at left tackle clear from the jump this offseason. The team seemingly made no real effort to re-sign Rasheed Walker, who was expected to land a lucrative multi-year contract that would’ve netted Green Bay a third-round compensatory pick in the 2027 NFL Draft. The plan from the beginning seemed to be for Morgan to play left tackle in 2026.
The club’s desire to replace Walker with Morgan became even more apparent later in March. Walker didn’t sign until March 13, agreeing to a one-year deal with the Carolina Panthers that carries just a $1.215 million base salary and a $4 million cap hit this year. Green Bay easily could’ve afforded a contract like that, but it stood firm by its bet on Morgan.

Morgan, the 25th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, is also poised to be unchallenged at left tackle during Packers training camp. The 6-foot-5 offensive lineman will get a large majority of the first-team reps with the offense, this coming off a year where he logged just 51 snaps at left tackle.
Green Bay certainly seems very confident that Morgan can not only hold his own as a full-time starter at left tackle for the first time in his NFL career, but that he’ll outperform Walker. It’s a big gamble for the franchise to take, especially since Darian Kinnard is the only experienced offensive tackle behind him on the depth chart.
Morgan’s performance this season could also have a significant influence on his future. While he’s under contract for 2026 ($3.868 million cap hit) and 2027 ($4.513 million cap hit), there’s a fully guaranteed fifth-year club option that the team could exercise after the 2026 season depending on his performance.
