Arsenal have been linked with a move to sign Julian Alvarez from Atletico Madrid in the summer transfer window, and David Ornstein has now provided an update on their pursuit.
Alvarez has currently been at the World Cup with Argentina, losing to Spain in the final on Sunday evening.
The former Manchester City forward has revealed publicly that he wants to leave Atletico Madrid in the summer, with Barcelona one of the sides that were showing an interest in securing his signature.
Arsenal are another side who have been linked with a move for Alvarez, but the La Liga outfit will undoubtedly want to keep him at the club this summer.
Atletico may not want to sell to Barcelona due to both of them playing in the same league, but it will be interesting to see whether they'll do business with Arsenal at the right price.

According to David Ornstein speaking on the Athletic FC podcast, the word from Madrid is that Atletico have no interest in allowing Alvarez to head through the exit door in the summer transfer window.
"We need to see what's going on with Julian Alvarez. He's obviously the dream target for Mikel Arteta, the apple of their eye. He wanted to go to Barcelona, but that path seems to be blocked by Atletico Madrid. The word from Madrid is that they're keeping him, and that's been said publicly. If there's any opening of a door, I'm sure Arsenal will try to walk through it, and there'll be others."
The Argentine international is considered a dream target for Mikel Arteta, but it remains to be seen whether they can convince him to make the move to the Emirates Stadium.
Signing a player of Alvarez's ability would certainly be an expensive deal for the Gunners, but the money does appear to be there.

Arsenal's Viktor Gyokeres celebrates scoring
Bringing in Alvarez to start in the centre-forward position at Arsenal would certainly be a huge upgrade on Swedish striker Viktor Gyokeres.
The former Sporting man enjoyed a reasonable first season in the Premier League, but Alvarez could take Arsenal to the next level.
The Argentine international already has Premier League experience with Manchester City and has continued his goal-scoring form when moving to La Liga. It will certainly be an expensive deal for Arsenal to get over the line, but it could be worth it, especially as they continue to miss out on key targets.
