The book amount Chelsea will spend on Morgan Rogers this season as£117m fee agreed

Player amortisation is something Chelsea’s owners have truly taken advantage of. Players joining on long-term contracts, with the fee spread out over those deals, while sales represent a full fee.

For example, Marc Cucurella has left Chelsea this summer for Real Madrid. The Spaniard has joined the Spanish giants for an initial £47.5m, plus £3.3m more in add-ons. That initial fee goes into the accounts.

But when signing players, Chelsea have really taken advantage. Rogers’ move to Chelsea will cost them £117m up front but in terms of Financial Fair Play, that fee is spread out across five years to ease costs.

Chelsea have already raked in £134.5m this summer. Initial fees for Cucurella, Andrey Santos, Tyrique George and Jimmy Jay-Morgan equate to a tall £117.5m, while Enzo Maresca’s compensation was £17m.

How much will Morgan Rogers cost Chelsea this year

In physical terms, Chelsea have received £134.5m and are set to take their spending to around £165m, with Marco Palestra bought from Atalanta for little below the £50m mark. The book spending is different.

Palestra is likely to have cost under £10m on this season’s records, despite Chelsea still raking in full fees from sales. The Telegraph say only £23.4m of Chelsea’s £117m fee for Rogers is on the books this year.

The physical sending of £117m to Aston Villa remains, but the fact that only £23.4m will be on the books for Rogers this summer, allowing the Blues to spend more cash elsewhere, like a left-back and in midfield.

What Chelsea are planning with Morgan Rogers next season

There are doubts among sections of the fanbase that are concerned over how Xabi Alonso is going to combine Rogers with Cole Palmer. The latter, on his day, is one of the best no.10’s in world football.

DISCUSS: In this current market, Rogers is a bargain 👀

But in order to convince Rogers over a move to Stamford Bridge, the former Man City man has got to start matches. Would he have done that at Arsenal? There’s no doubt he would in a Chelsea shirt.

In talks for Rogers, Chelsea informed the Aston Villa star that he would be Xabi Alonso’s starter on the left wing. It means Alonso and Chelsea are planning to have both Rogers and Palmer in the starting line-up.
