Liverpool and their legend Mohamed Salah, both had confirmed that he will leave Anfield at the end of the season. His contract with the Reds has already expired in June. The question is where he will end up. Fabrizio Romano has exposed the real truth behind Salah’s next club after he confirmed that the Egyptian has reached an agreement with Besiktas.

Mohamed Salah is very close to joining Besiktas for the upcoming season

This year, in March Liverpool had officially announced on their club’s website that club legend Mohamed Salah will end his Anfield career at the end of 2025-26 season. The Reds had to go through a struggling period this season. They nearly qualified for the Champions League by finishing 5th on the Premier League table. Salah along with some other players at the club faced tough situations last season.

The Egyptian winger was the best player for Liverpool in their Premier League title winning 2024-25 campaign. The veteran scored 34 goals and provided 23 assists in 52 games in all competitions, in that season according to FOTMOB. As a result, he signed a new two year contract which would have kept him at Merseyside until 2027. But things got changed. He had a massive dip in his form last year. As reported by Sky Sports, the 34-year-old and the club mutually agreed to a contract termination with one year remaining in that deal.

As reported by TEAMtalk, there has been immense interest from clubs around the world for Salah. Specifically, Saudi, MLS and Turkish sides are interested in signing him. Those teams will fight with each other to secure the Egyptian’s signature. They also reported that Saudi League is the front runner to sign him while MLS are seriously monitoring the situation. But suddenly a news changed the whole scenario.

Journalist Santi Aouna posted on his X that Turkish club Besiktas and Mohamed Salah have reached an agreement. Salah can be seen to play in Super Lig next season. The post says that, “Verbal agreement reached with Mohamed Salah to join Besiktas on a free transfer. Salary worth around €10m per year + €2m bonuses. One-year contract with an option for an additional year.”

Key Statistic:

Mohamed Salah’s stats for Liverpool in 2025-26 season, according to FOTMOB:

Competitions Appearances Goals Assists

Premier League 27 7 7

FA Cup 3 2 1

UEFA Champions League 10 3 2

What is the exclusive truth disclosed by Fabrizio Romano about Salah’s move?

After this news was posted, Salah’s agent, Ramy Abass Issa, shared his response saying that it is false. He said on X: “I personally do not know where Mohamed will play next season. What does that tell you?” His agent also said that it is not their way to discuss with clubs that Salah wouldn’t opt to play for. As reported by Haberler, Besiktas have also officially communicated rejecting any rumor of Salah joining them.

But journalist Fabrizio Romano has informed that they have offered him a deal as they wish to sign him. Romano states that Besiktas have responded negatively to media reports because Salah’s deal hasn’t been finalized yet. He clarified the issue on his YouTube channel, “Before an agreement is finalized, clubs must exercise caution, completely understandable. Besiktas is indeed pursuing Salah’s transfer, and they did make an offer.

However, we must await an official agreement before confirmation. We’re waiting for the next steps.”
