What the end of the World Cup means for Barcelona’s transfer plans

_1_

La Liga champions Barcelona intend to ramp up their pursuit of a leading transfer target now that the World Cup has come to an official end.

The Blaugrana target in question? Julián Alvarez.

Frontman Alvarez has of course long been confirmed as the headline summer target on the part of those behind the scenes at the Spotify Camp Nou.

Amid a search for a long-term replacement for Robert Lewandowski, the Argentine is considered the perfect profile of striker.

Barcelona, in turn, recently went as far as to table a big-money offer for Alvarez’s signature. The proposal in question was knocked back by Atlético Madrid, who [remain adamant](https://x.com/FabrizioRomano/status/2078066420278030759) that their star goalscorer will be going nowhere this summer.

As alluded to above, though, if the latest word stemming from the media early this week is anything to go by, then Joan Laporta and co. have evidently not been deterred.

As per a report from Spanish journalist Alex Pintanel:

‘Now that the World Cup is over, Barça will accelerate for Julián Álvarez. Decisive days.’

> Un cop acabat el Mundial, el Barça accelerarà per Julián Álvarez. Dies decisius.
