Todd Monken has barely settled into his new role, however, one thing has already become part of the conversation around theCleveland Browns. His straightforward answers have drawn plenty of attention, giving fans an early glimpse of the personality he’ll bring to the podium throughout the season.
Whether that approach lasts, is another question. One longtime Cleveland insider believes that Monken’s blunt style could eventually soften once the pressure of an NFL season begins to mount.

Speaking on 92.3 The Fan’s “Cleveland Talking Heads” in comments shared on July 20, the Browns insider Scott Petrak discussed Monken’s candid media sessions and why he believes the first-year Browns HC will eventually adjust his tone.

Monken arrived in the Browns with a reputation for speaking his mind as much as designing productive offenses. After successful stops with Georgia and the Baltimore Ravens, he is now tasked with rebuilding a Browns team coming off a disappointing 5-12 campaign while overseeing one of the league’s most closely watched quarterback competitions.
His coaching style has already generated optimism. During a July 16 appearance on Sports4CLE, Browns analyst Jake Burns argued that Monken’s offensive philosophy is more adaptable than Kevin Stefanski’s, pointing to the new coach’s willingness to tailor his system around his personnel rather than asking quarterbacks to fit a rigid scheme. Burns believes that flexibility could benefit both Deshaun Watson and Shedeur Sanders as they battle for the starting job.
Monken’s résumé also continues to fuel confidence around the organization. Before taking over in the Browns, he coordinated the Ravens high-powered offense and helped guide Georgia to consecutive national championships.
Training camp, however, will bring a different challenge. Every answer Monken gives will be dissected alongside every QB rep, especially as Watson and Sanders continue competing for the starting role.
The Browns are expected to let that battle play out well into August before making a final decision.
