Numerous NFL Stars Call Out League Amid World Cup

In the NFL, one of the perspectives that emerged from the 2026 FIFA World Cup might have staying power. As home stadiums transformed into soccer stadiums, stars throughout the league couldn’t help but notice the grass. There are a number of NFL players who want the grass to stay even after the World Cup has ended.

One of the first big-name players to speak out publicly about these playing surface changes was San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle. As recently as last month, Kittle said the NFL would be able to play on grass year-round if owners “really gave a s—” about the transition from artificial turf to natural grass.

On Sunday, Kittle attended the World Cup final between Spain and Argentina and once again called for change in the NFL.
