Manu Kone is again being mentioned as a potential transfer target for Liverpool this summer.

Liverpool were first linked with Manu Kone in the summer of 2023, however, the French midfielder has once again emerged as a potential transfer target for the Reds.
Kone was heavily linked with a move to Anfield in 2023 as Liverpool searched for a replacement for Fabinho following the Brazilian’s departure.

However, a deal never materialised, and the Reds have struggled to fully replace the defensive presence Fabinho provided – although Ryan Gravenberch played a key role as Liverpool won the Premier League title in 2025.
With Liverpool potentially facing further changes in midfield this summer, Kone has again been mentioned as a possible option. However, Manchester United are reportedly leading the race to sign the 25-year-old, who is now playing for Roma.
According to L’Équipe, initial talks have taken place, although no agreement has been reached. Like many clubs during a transfer window affected by the World Cup, United are taking a cautious approach and want to assess potential deals before committing to major spending.
Manchester United have already signed Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans from Premier League rivals Chelsea and Aston Villa respectively.
Kone’s performances for France at the World Cup have attracted significant attention, and the former Toulouse midfielder is expected to move to a Premier League club this summer. The midfielder is also keen on a switch to England and wants his future resolved quickly.
Kone remains under contract with AS Roma until 2029, meaning any interested club will likely need to negotiate a substantial transfer fee.
The Frenchman started four matches at the World Cup. Although Roma only signed Kone two years ago, they could be forced to consider a sale in order to comply with UEFA’s Financial Fair Play regulations.
Liverpool could also be looking to reshape their midfield, with the futures of Curtis Jones and Stefan Bajcetic uncertain. Alexis Mac Allister enjoyed a strong World Cup campaign, but his club form last season provided little encouragement for the future.
Andoni Iraola’s side have been assessing several midfield options this summer, with Adam Wharton, Monaco’s Lamine Camara and Lens midfielder Mamadou Sangare among the players who have been monitored by the club.
