The New England Patriots released undrafted defensive tackle Travis Shaw on Friday and replaced his spot on the roster on Monday with another defensive tackle.
The Patriots announced they re-signed defensive tackle Isaiah Iton just days before the start of training camp. Iton originally signed with the Patriots in May of last year and impressed during training camp, but spent the entire season on injured reserve after suffering a hip injury in New England’s preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings.
The 24-year-old Iton got his start in the NFL with the Tennessee Titans as a rookie free agent from Rutgers. Iton spent the 2024 season on the Titans practice squad and was released in April 2025 after signing a futures contract.
Iton played for Northern Colorado, Hutchinson Community College, Mississippi and Rutgers in college. The 6-foot-3, 300-pound interior defensive lineman started all 13 games in his final collegiate season with the Scarlet Knights and registered 38 tackles with a sack and a fumble recovery.
Iton will try to crack the Patriots’ 53-man roster at one of their deepest positional groups. Milton Williams and Christian Barmore are the stars of the unit while Cory Durden, Eric Gregory, Joshua Farmer and Leonard Taylor III all provide solid depth.
The Patriots hold their first training camp practice in front of media and spectators on Saturday.
