Sometimes it’s on a hiking trail. Sometimes it’s around a campfire. Sometimes it’s while building a robot, leading a service project, or earning a badge alongside new friends.
These moments may seem small, but they build confidence, resilience and leadership that can last a lifetime.
That’s why United Way of Greater Charlotte invests in nonprofit partners like Girl Scouts Hornets’ Nest Council. By supporting organizations that equip young people with the skills and experiences they need to thrive, United Way is helping build stronger neighborhoods and a brighter future for the entire community.
The United Way team recently had the opportunity to visit Girl Scouts Hornets’ Nest Council and learn more about the work it is doing across the region. Every day, the organization creates opportunities for girls to discover their strengths, develop leadership skills, explore STEM, serve their communities and build the confidence to pursue their dreams.
Watching girls encourage one another, embrace new challenges and grow into leaders was a reminder that investing in young people today creates stronger communities tomorrow.
The visit also held special meaning for Marketing and Communications Manager Ashley Green.
Ashley shared that becoming a Girl Scout was something she had always hoped to experience as a child, but never had the opportunity. During the visit, she was officially welcomed into the Girl Scout sisterhood as an adult, turning a childhood dream into a reality.
“It was an experience I’ll never forget,” she shared. “Finally becoming a Girl Scout in my 30s reminded me that it’s never too late to belong to something bigger than yourself. It also gave me an even greater appreciation for the experiences these girls are having today and how those moments can shape a lifetime.”
