With Sunday evening marking the final game of the World Cup, the summer transfer gridlock that has stalled business for Liverpool and several other clubs is finally expected to break. The clock is ticking ahead of the Reds' opening clash against Newcastle United on August 23, meaning the club's activity in the market is bound to accelerate rapidly in the coming weeks.
Simultaneously, preparations on the pitch are shifting into high gear. The squad jetted off to the United States on Monday to kick off their pre-season tour.
Although a number of international players are taking a well-earned break following their World Cup exploits and will link up with the camp later, the American trip offers new manager Andoni Iraola his best chance yet to thoroughly evaluate the roster at his disposal.
The anticipated transfer flurry is already making headlines today. Iraola has officially confirmed a new signing for the club, while in other developments, a familiar name long linked with a move to Anfield, Yan Diomande, currently finds himself at the centre of a dramatic transfer U-turn.
Liverpool confirm new arrival
Alejandro Rosalen has been announced as Liverpool's new first-team goalkeeping coach following the exit of Xavi Valero. The Spaniard has arrived at the Reds after five years with Napoli, during which he contributed to two Serie A title triumphs, in 2022/23 and 2024/25.
In an official statement published on the club's website confirming the appointment, Liverpool said: "Alejandro Rosalen has been appointed as Liverpool's new first-team goalkeeping coach. The 49-year-old Spaniard joins Andoni Iraola's backroom staff, replacing Xavi Valero, who has now departed the Reds after a second spell with the club in 2025-26.
"Rosalen arrives on Merseyside with a wealth of experience as a goalkeeper coach. His most recent position was at Serie A side Napoli, from 2021 to this summer. While there, Rosalen contributed to Napoli lifting the Scudetto on two occasions (2022-23 and 2024-25).
"He had previously spent eight years with Fiorentina in Italy, a period that followed a single season at Hungarian outfit Videoton. Rosalen's coaching career had begun in Valencia's academy, where he stayed for eight years."

Valero informed Liverpool before the close of last season that he wanted to move on, just 12 months after re-joining the club from West Ham. According to The Athletic, his departure was unconnected to Arne Slot's sacking and was understood to be a decision reached by both parties.
The Spaniard had been part of Rafael Benitez's coaching setup at Anfield between 2007 and 2010. Following stints at Inter, Chelsea, Napoli and Real Madrid, he spent seven years at the Hammers before being brought in by Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes last summer.
Diomande transfer 'update'
Long-standing Liverpool target Yan Diomande was reportedly said to have agreed personal terms with Paris Saint-Germain as far back as June.
Crucially, however, no agreement has yet been reached between PSG and the player's current club, RB Leipzig, with the German outfit still hopeful of retaining the teenager.

Despite making it abundantly clear to Leipzig that they could meet his reported £86.8million asking price, the Bundesliga club refused to budge.
Fabrizio Romano has since claimed that a number of rival clubs are still attempting to hijack the deal and lure Diomande away from PSG, which could prompt the player to reconsider his decision to join the Ligue 1 side. Nevertheless, it remains uncertain whether Liverpool have rekindled their interest in the winger.
