Arsenal‘s Charles Sagoe Jr is not closing door on leaving the Premier League side permanently amid claims of AIK Fotboll’s interest.
The 21-year-old joined Arsenal’s academy in 2015 and made only one appearance for the first team, in the EFL Cup win over Brentford in September 2023.
He had two loan spells before the Gunners sanctioned another temporary move to Kalmar FF in February.
The transfer to Sweden has helped the winger feature regularly. He’s played 1,272 minutes from 15 matches, scoring two goals and contributing eight assists. His performances didn’t go unnoticed in the Allsvenskan.
Last week, Sport Witness covered claims from Sweden that AIK have held talks over a summer move. The temporary deal with Kalmar lasts until December.
Arsenal man happy with AIK links
Fotbollskanalen first relay the recent claim of AIK Fotboll’s interest and then share Charles Sagoe Jr’s comments.
The attacker is excited about their reported interest and has spoken to his family and agent.
“It’s always flattering that AIK, a big club in Sweden, is interested in me. Then it seems like I’m doing something good,” he said.
“Right now, I’m enjoying playing in Kalmar where I have a loan until the end of the season.
“Obviously, I’m talking to my representatives, Arsenal and my family too. I don’t have much more to say.”
When asked whether a move to AIK a step up, Sagoe Jr explained: “I know the club’s heritage and that big, big players have been there.
“They sold Yohanna [Zadok, to Brighton] who is a class talent. I’m well aware of what they are doing. It is a big club, and it is flattering to say that they are interested.”
To hold talks with Arsenal
Charles Sagoe Jr will speak to Mikel Arteta’s side about a permanent move to Sweden.
“I’ll have to talk to Arsenal about it, because they gave me the opportunity to come here on loan,” he added.
“I really wanted to go abroad, and I definitely felt that Sweden could feel like home. You never know what will happen, so we’ll see at the end of the season [end of this year].”
