Manchester City
Manchester City star Rodri has to sort out his immediate future amid claims of Real Madrid interest.
The Spain international’s contract expires in 2027, and Manchester City want to tie him down to a new contract.
Over the past few months, the Spanish media have regularly talked about the Real Madrid option.
In March, the 30-year-old refused to rule out a summer transfer. At that time, he said: “No, no. I’m not going to answer that. It’s a time to think about what we have now, with my team, about my season, which is quite a lot, and then we’ll see.”
Two months ago, Sport Witness covered claims from Spain that he wants to follow Pep Guardiola and leave Manchester City. On June 1st, we relayed news Rodri and the Premier League side are far apart on the renewal.
Real Madrid stance on Manchester City puzzling
The midfielder was a standout player for Spain in their World Cup success. This has encouraged a section of the Real Madrid fans to demand the club to sign him.
Their supporters can’t figure out why Los Blancos aren’t making advances since Rodri has fully recovered from a serious knee injury and has regained his best form.
That’s according to Tuesday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo. As well as the fans, a section of Real Madrid dressing room and others within the club want him.
The Manchester City star also wants to join them, and the Spanish giants are aware he’s keen on a move.
Real Madrid refusing to sign Manchester City man
Los Blancos’ leadership aren’t moving to sign Rodri. There’s belief Florentino Pérez is the one who is opposing this operation.
Last month, Pérez won the presidential election after overcoming Enrique Riquelme. Prior to that, Riquelme publicly endorsed Rodri’s signing for Real Madrid.
He said: “I love that player, he’s a fantastic player and he’s the type of player Real Madrid should have and who should be playing for them. But obviously he’s at another club and we have to respect that. Rodri is the type of player who should be playing for Real Madrid.”
Mundo now claim Riquelme backing Rodri’s transfer is ‘doesn’t work in Rodri’s favour with Florentino Pérez.’
This should please Enzo Maresca’s side, who have already offered him an extension. Rodri hasn’t signed it yet and is calm about the whole situation.
With the completion of the World Cup, the midfielder will have time to focus and decide on his future.
