Everton target Jack Grealish said he is closing in on a return to training after his lengthy absence through injury.
The playmaker has been out of action since a stress fracture to his foot came to light in the days after he led the Blues to victory at Aston Villa in January.
Everton are understood to be open to securing his return - depending on several issues, including the strength of his recovery from an issue that required surgery.
Grealish returned to light training earlier this summer and has spent much of the close-season detailing his growing strength as he seeks to be ready for next season. He opted to remain at Everton through to the conclusion of his loan contract, meaning the first six months of his rehabilitation was spent at Finch Farm - a stint that initially continued beyond the end of the last campaign and after most of his teammates had started their summer break.
On Monday night, the 30-year-old shared images of him doing fitness work back at parent club Manchester City, who returned for pre-season last week. He wrote: “Nice to see everyone, am nearly there! Hopefully not long now till back training for good.”
Grealish’s progress is being tracked by Everton after a successful loan spell before his injury. The Champions League winner scored two late, match-winning goals and provided six assists in the first half of the season and quickly became a popular figure among supporters, players and behind-the-scenes.
He spoke openly of the bond he grew with Everton, while David Moyes was a fan of what he brought to the team. The Blues ended last season open to exploring a return for Grealish. With a loan switch being the club’s preference, any move will be dependent on whether Man City believe they can recoup any money from him elsewhere in the transfer market and on the success of his recovery from his foot injury.
