Ferran Torres’ name has begun to be linked to Liverpool following his winning goal in the World Cup final, but is there truth behind the transfer rumours?
Torres was the perhaps unlikely hero as Spain overcame Argentina’s physical approach on Sunday, coming off the bench to win the World Cup with his first goal of the tournament.
The 26-year-old has dominated headlines since, not least due to his precarious situation at Barcelona, with whom he has entered the final year of his contract.
Paris Saint-Germain are widely reported to be his primary suitors, but claims this week have touted the versatile attacker with a switch to Liverpool.

A post on X attributed the links to L’Equipe journalist Loic Tanzi, who was claimed to have revealed an expression of interest from Anfield which had raised Torres’ price tag.
This was picked up by Get French Football News – citing L’Equipe but citing a post from @PSG_Report – along with a slew of Liverpool aggregators.
But the reality is that Tanzi did not credit Liverpool with an interest in Torres and simply used them as an example for the bidding war which could ensue following his heroics in the World Cup final.
What Loic Tanzi really said on Ferran Torres and Liverpool

Speaking on radio station Ici Paris Ile-de-France, Tanzi said: “Before the World Cup, I think he was someone you could negotiate for – if you played it right – between €10 million and €20 million without it being considered too expensive.
“It depends on the clubs. If you’re the only one after the player, negotiating is pretty easy. If the player doesn’t want to extend his contract, things go smoothly.
“But in this case, if Barca wants to extend him and two or three other clubs step in, well, you could end up paying three times as much. It’s all about supply and demand in the market.
“So, a player’s price is always a complicated matter. If Liverpool comes along tomorrow wanting to pull a ‘Torres’ move, you’re not going to pay the same price you would have a week earlier.”
Could Liverpool still hold an interest in Ferran Torres?

While Torres may be on Liverpool’s radar, there is no indication they are preparing a move at this stage.
His contract situation will have raised him as an option for the club’s recruitment team, who could also value his ability to play a variety of roles across the attack and his Premier League experience with Man City.
There was concrete interest in a deal when he was still at Valencia in 2020 and his file will not have been removed from the cabinet.
But claims an approach has been made to Barcelona appear wide of the mark – and simply another case of a story being willed into existence during a quiet period for Liverpool.
