Rumoured Liverpool transfer target Alex Scott will turn down a “second proposal” for a contract extension from Bournemouth, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The 22-year-old has emerged as a potential signing for the Reds this summer, with Andoni Iraola knowing him well from their time together at Bournemouth.
Scott enhanced his reputation during the 2025/26 season, showcasing his box-to-box talent and scoring the winning goal away to eventual champions Arsenal, and a big-money move away from the south coast could be on the cards.
Bournemouth are clearly desperate to keep hold of one of their most important players, but writing on X, Romano claimed that the midfielder has no intention of signing a new deal:
“Alex Scott and his camp informed Bournemouth about decision to turn down second proposal over new deal. Bournemouth insist to keep the player and open to include a release clause into new contract but no agreement yet. Premier League top clubs, attentive.”
Is Alex Scott Liverpool’s best midfield option?
There is a lot to like about Scott as a footballer, from his age to his all-round ability, and he could be a great asset for Liverpool for many more years to come.
The Englishman may not be the world-class player that some Reds supporters crave – there aren’t many of those around – but he will only improve, and Iraola lauded him during last season, saying:
“Alex [Scott] has been like this for many months. He was amazing. He’s in such good form. I’m so happy for him. He’s worked a lot to be at this level.”
The fact that Scott has rejected a new contract at Bournemouth can only be a good thing for Liverpool, and other suitors for that matter, and it seems clear that he wants a fresh challenge.
Granted, he isn’t the defensive midfielder that the Reds could arguably do with, and he won’t arrive on the cheap, but Iraola will know exactly what he can bring to the table.
If Liverpool end up not pursuing a move for Scott, allowing him to join a Premier League rival instead, they could end up ruing the decision well into the future.
