Melvine Malard has admitted that she has come to Chelsea to win trophies after joining the Blues from Manchester United on a four year contract.
The forward joins Chelsea after two seasons with Manchester United, where she established herself as a versatile attacking option capable of playing across the front line. Known for her pace, direct running and technical ability, Malard arrives with significant experience at both domestic and international level.
Her move marks another statement of intent from Chelsea as the club continues to reinforce its squad in pursuit of further success in England and Europe. The Blues have consistently challenged for major honours in recent years and view Malard as a player capable of adding greater depth and competition in the attacking positions.
And after joining CHELSEA, the French International admitted that she wants to win trophies with Chelsea, She told the club website: ‘It was no problem to leave my home because I wanted to be a professional footballer and it was already in my head.
‘It was my opportunity so I left my family and lived alone in Lyon for two years before my family then came to France too. I am someone who if I want something, then I go and get it.’
‘Sonia has been so influential, for me and for my family. If Sonia had not called my Mum and taken me to Lyon, I would not be here today. She did so much for me when I was at Lyon.
‘Now whenever I see Sonia I feel proud because she is the one who told me to come to Lyon in the first place. So it is amazing to have the opportunity to join her again. I really wanted to take this opportunity because I love this coach.
‘I have never worked under any other coaches who were such big footballers themselves, like Sonia and [assistant coach] Camille Abily were. I love having them as coaches because when you speak to them you know they know what it is like to play at this level.’
‘Winning the Champions League is one of my objectives,’ she stated. ‘I know Chelsea have never won it, so I think it is the trophy the club really wants. I hope we can win it while I’m here.
‘Chelsea have a very good mix of players: experienced players, young players, fun players and very focused players. It is very good to have that mix, and I’m excited to see the girls.’
The transfer also reflects CHELSEA‘s continued ambition to assemble one of the strongest squads in Europe. Competition for places is expected to intensify, with Malard adding another dimension to an already talented attacking unit.
