All you need to know as Manchester City prospect Matty Warhurst departs the Etihad...
Matty Warhurst has left City, completing a permanent switch to League Two side Northampton Town.
The 19-year-old striker came through the ranks at the Etihad having joined from Oldham in 2019 and was a prolific goalscorer in the youth and academy set-up.
But he has sought first-team football and joins Northampton on a three-year contract for an undisclosed fee.
It is understood the Cobblers have agreed a deal worth up to £100,000 with City for the teenager and the Blues have inserted a high sell-on clause in the move.
Warhurst is the latest academy player to depart City with Jahmai Simpson-Pusey and Reigan Heskey having left permanently to join Bundesliga side FC Koln.
Several clubs were interested in Warhurst but Northampton have won the race for his signature as they attempt to bounce back after last season's relegation from League One.
Northampton boss Chris Hogg said: "Matty is a poacher and a finisher, he has excellent movement in the final third and a terrific work ethic and attitude and what really stood out to me, right from our very first conversation, was how keen he was to come to Northampton Town. As a player, he is a striker who can play on the shoulder of the last defender and run in behind. He is also very good at arriving centrally at the right time. We believe he has the hunger, desire and attributes to do well for Northampton Town and that he can be an excellent signing for the club both in the present and for the future."
Warhurst himself added: "At the end of last season we reviewed it and thought my next step was into first team football. I want to be here and show the club and fans I am committed."
